It feels like a long time ago in a far away galaxy when I look at this picture. It was in 2010 in Aleppo. I was a backpacker trying to find my way around Syria. Now thinking about it, this father and son are so far away from me. Where are they now? In a refugee camp? They made it to Europe or drowned trying? Or is the boy recruited by IS or was he killed by one of Assad’s barrel bombs? Then, I think maybe it is not always that black and white, at least this is the only hope we have to go on for another day, although the picture says otherwise…
