My Room in Amman-Jordan » Gharb/Gozo-Malta

A story from Home is Where Mom is-Gozo/Malta

So, I just arrived at the Malta airport and waiting for my ride to arrive and realised that in Malta, one drives on the right side of the road! Back to my London memories...I used to always be encountered with the big red giant to overrun me at any given moment..I managed to survive despite my left programming..I think that might affect one's political affiliations, orientations and righteousness...a mere dwelling really...but I once had this funny conversation with a Dutch friend of mine in Amman, where I insisted that in my country I drive on the left side of the road and the car eventually whereas in London I drive on the right hand side, and he said the exact opposite, both of us convicted to what we are convicted to and proud, with this conversation that lasted for 3 minutes just started laughing! We realised then that we meant different things, my friend was referring to how the driving goes in terms of roundabouts, exits and what have you...where that specificity (roundabout, exit) is always obviously on the left in a place like England and I was referring to more direct and obvious byproducts...and we both come from countries that drive on the same side! Yet, we had trouble communicating that simple idea..it could be language or culture or many other nuances in between...but it's just always interesting how miscommunication happens for very simple reasons sometimes...and I cannot elaborate on my theory of right sided driving or left sided driving when I think of this incident, it just eliminates any kind of generlisation I attempt to make! Which is good, generalisations are generally inaccurate ;)
